Preparations for staging carnival in Gash-Barka region nearing finalization

The necessary preparations are nearing finalization to feature various programs, including carnival in Gash-Barka reigon on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Independence Day. Barentu, 14 May 2011 – The necessary preparations are nearing finalization to feature various programs, including carnival in Gash-Barka reigon on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Independence Day.

The chairman of the holidays coordinating committee in the region, Mr. Rezene Adonai, explained that carnival would be conducted highlighting the cultural and social lifestyle of the people, the history and heroism of nationals, as well as ancient relics and trenches.

Student shows and military parade would also be part of the carnival, and that the people are enhancing participation in the program, he elaborated.

Mr. Rezene further explained that Barentu, Agordat and Tessenei towns in particular are being decorated with neon lights and other materials symbolizing the significance of the great event.
