Massawa, 20 May 2011 – The residents of Massawa city said that the colorful Independence Day celebration underway across the country amply demonstrate the steadfastness and unity of the Eritrean people.
They explained that independence has a special meaning to Eritrean citizens as they achieved it through paying heavy sacrifices, unlike other peoples. The utmost preparations made to colorfully celebrate the great Day fully attest to this fact, they elaborated.
The residents further outlined the various enemy conspiracies weaved against the Eritrean people and the promising stage reached through rebuffing the ploys. In this connection, they expressed deep tribute to the fallen heroes.
Reports indicated that Massawa is being decorated with neon lights and that various musical performances are being staged beginning May 13. Besides, exhibitions, community tents, carnival show, cultural shows and peace demonstration are underway, according to the holidays coordinating committee.
Meanwhile, Independence Day celebrations are being conducted in all the sub-zones and administrative areas of the Northern Red Sea region with patriotic zeal.
