The Asmara School of Nursing has played vital role in nurturing competent health professionals and ensuring reliable health service over the past years since independence, according to Mr. Tesfai Wahid, Director of the school. Asmara, 30 May 2011 – The Asmara School of Nursing has played vital role in nurturing competent health professionals and ensuring reliable health service over the past years since independence, according to Mr. Tesfai Wahid, Director of the school.
He noted that the school has so far graduated over 4,200 nurses in diploma and that 100 students would graduate next July. Mr. Tesfai further explained that following curriculum review in 1998 and 2005, the students are pursuing courses on community nurse, psychological nurse, delivery nurse and the like.
Also in line with efforts to upgrade the competence of instructors, 75% of lecturers in the school have elevated their educational status to B.A. degree and 25% to M.A.
Indicating that out of the total number of nurses in the Health Ministry, 54% of them were nurtured in the post-independence period, Mr. Tesfai stated that Ginda, Mendefera and Barentu schools of Assistant Nurse are graduating 100 to 300 professionals in certificate annually.
