Asmara, 1 June 2011 – The head of hospital in Dubarwa sub-zone, Mr. Gebrehiwet Arefaine, said that various communicable and non-communicable diseases have been eradicated and controlled thanks to the growing public awareness regarding health matters.

He explained that prior to independence, members of the public were compelled to resort to backward practices due to lack of meaningful health service. At present,  however, the awareness of the public regarding the significance of medical treatment is on the rise, he added.

Mr. Gebrehiwet further indicated that the hospital is providing various services, including regular medical treatment, vaccination, pre-and post-delivery medical checkups, delivery and voluntary blood testing, among others. A waiting hall for pregnant mothers has also been put in place in the hospital, which in turn contributed to the reduction of mother and child mortality rate, he stated.
