Nacfa, 13 June 2011-Veteran fighters who participated in bitter wars along the Nacfa Front that continued for tens of years said that Eritrea’s independence is the outcome of the steadfastness and heroic exploits demonstrated in the Front.
In an interview they conducted in connection with Martyrs Day, Col. Gebregergis Debretsion, Col. Hagos Tekeste and Col. Suleiman Hamid stated that Nacfa was chosen as EPLF’s stronghold to weaken the Derge regime that was fully-backed by the Soviet Union in the wake of the strategic withdrew of freedom fighters from the liberated areas.
In this connection, they pointed out that the heroic feats and heavy sacrifices paid in the Front proved the fact that Eritrea’s independence is inevitable. The commemoration of this year’s June 20 in the historic Nacfa at the national level conveys deep message, the veterans added.
