World Blood Donors Day Marked Here

World Blood Donors Day was marked at Hager Media Hall  here in the capital under the theme: “Safe Blood for Ensuring Safe Life.”

Asmara, 13 June 2011- World Blood Donors Day was marked at Hager Media Hall  here in the capital under the theme: “Safe Blood for Ensuring Safe Life.”

Speaking on the occasion, the director of the Eritrean Blood Bank, Dr. Yifdeamlak Tesfamariam, commended the individuals who are voluntarily donating blood, and indicated that the observances is aimed at raising public awareness regarding significance of voluntary blood donation and eventually avoiding family-based blood donation. 

A representative of voluntary blood donators, Brig. General Tekie Russom, said on  his part that donation of blood on voluntary basis has a vital role to play in tackling the existing shortage of blood. In this connection, he called on every national to emulate such a sacred initiative.

Various artistic presentations highlighting the significance of the Day featured on the occasion.
