Asmara, 18 June 2011 – In connection with Martyrs Day, an arts exhibition portraying the inhumane atrocities committed by the Ethiopian colonial forces against innocent civilians in Besgedira in 1970 is being staged in front of the Education Ministry’s building here in the capital. The Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom opened the exhibition.
The exhibition prepared by Artist Ghidey Gebremichael depicts the heavy sacrifices paid by the Eritrean people to achieve independence and the hardship they gone through.
Artist Ghidey stated that a total of 140 innocent Eritrean civilians in Besgedira were ruthlessly massacred on 29 November 1970 by the colonial forces. The fact that the exhibition is accompanied by testimony of those who narrowly survived the inhumane atrocities gives it added strength, he added.
The exhibition would remain open to the public until June 21.
