The inhabitants of Emberemi administrative area, Massawa sub-zone, are carrying out soil and water conservation activities aimed at boosting output. Emberemi, 24 June 2011 – The inhabitants of Emberemi administrative area, Massawa sub-zone, are carrying out soil and water conservation activities aimed at boosting output.
Members of the farming community in the area commended the endeavors being made by the Government in the construction and renovation of embankments and water catchments. They further stated that they are actively engaged in diverting river waters flowing from the highlands for agricultural purpose.
The farmers stressed the need for constructing water diversion scheme as the area is suitable for agricultural practices. They also lauded the Government’s ongoing efforts towards improving the living standard of farmers, and voiced determination to back up the national development drive.
The Administrator of the area, Mr. Saleh Al-Amin, called on the farmers to enhance such activities so as to boost production.
Reports indicated that there exist about 2,000 hectares in Emberemi administrative area that could be put under irrigation farming.
