A new water reservoir has been construction in Grasha administrative area, Haikota sub-zone, with a view to easing shortage of drinking water for livestock resource in the area.
Haikota, 24 June 2011 – A new water reservoir has been construction in Grasha administrative area, Haikota sub-zone, with a view to easing shortage of drinking water for livestock resource in the area.
Expert in irrigation farming at the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Natnael Yonatan, explained that the local inhabitants used to face acute water shortage for their cattle as they are far apart from the Gash River.
The water reservoir which is constructed at a cost of about 1 million Nakfa through the collaboration of the Agriculture Ministry and partners is expected to serve about 20,000 cattle.
Reports indicated that although the area is endowed with rich rangelands, the inhabitants were compelled to travel for 20 kilometers to obtain water from Gash River.
Grasha administrative area is located 8 Km. east of Haikota sub-zone.
