Farming community in Geleb sub-zone promoting vegetable farming

Members of the farming community in Geleb sub-zone are actively engaged in vegetable farming activities with a view to achieving food security, ERINA correspondent from the area reported. Geleb, 28 June 2011 – Members of the farming community in Geleb sub-zone are actively engaged in vegetable farming activities with a view to achieving food security, ERINA correspondent from the area reported.

The farmers said that they are boosting fruits and vegetables production through modern irrigation system and avoiding sole dependence on rainfall.

Reports indicated that they are now in a position to harvest three times a year and are playing major role in stabilizing the local market. There are 400 farmers engaged in vegetable farming on about 350 hectares in Geleb sub-zone, according to Mr. Jabir Ibrahim, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.
