Barentu, 28 June 2011 – The Sudanese medical team, “Kaflai Al-Beser”, that comprises ophthalmologists provided free eye treatment service in Barentu Referral Hospital.
The Minister of Health, Ms. Amna Nurhusein, observed the service provided by the Sudanese doctors. She also told ERINA that the program is a continuation of similar service provided in the Northern Red Sea region. It is also part and parcel of the ongoing efforts being made by the Health Ministry towards preventing blindness and other sight problems.
The head of the medical team, Mr. Al-Ubeida Muktar, said that such a service would enhance the existing relations between Eritrea and Sudan.
The beneficiaries of the medical treatment expressed satisfaction with the service and stressed its significance in relieving them from sight problems.
The head of the Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region, Dr. Leul Banteirga, said on his part that the medical treatment was provided to a total of 7,000 nationals from all walks of life, out of whom 3,300 were given different drugs and eyeglasses.
