This year’s Summer Work Program (SWP) is scheduled to be conducted from July 4 to August 6 across the country, according to Mr. Fitiwi Woldegergis, head of coordination of the program in the Ministry of Education. About 20,000 students and 900 care takers are expected to take part in the program.
Asmara, 30 June 2011 – This year’s Summer Work Program (SWP) is scheduled to be conducted from July 4 to August 6 across the country, according to Mr. Fitiwi Woldegergis, head of coordination of the program in the Ministry of Education. About 20,000 students and 900 care takers are expected to take part in the program.
He stated that the program would be carried out in 150 stations and would give top priority to soil and water conservation activities, planting the seedlings digging holes and constructing terraces, as well as embankments. Mr. Fitiwi added that about 2 million tree seedlings are being made ready for plantation. He further indicated that over 17 million tree seedlings have been planted over the past 14 rounds of the SWP, and that it bore fruitful outcome in enclosures.
Mr. Fitiwi also called on students to enhance their active participation in the program in view of the fact that it is vital in nurturing work ethics among students, exchanging experience and preserving societal values.
