A new micro-dam is under construction in Ashera administrative area, Hagaz sub-zone, with a view to easing potable water supply problem and promoting irrigation farming activities.
Hagaz, 2 July 2011 – A new micro-dam is under construction in Ashera administrative area, Hagaz sub-zone, with a view to easing potable water supply problem and promoting irrigation farming activities.
The micro-dam with the capacity of holding over 350,000 cubic meters of water is being constructed at an expenditure of over 5 million Nakfa. It is expected to provide potable water supply to the inhabitants of 8 villages, besides facilitating irrigation farming in the nearby farmland, according to Mr. Kiflai Kidane, coordinator of environmental development projects in the Anseba regional Administration.
He further explained that embankments and terraces are being put in place around the micro-dam so as to prevent silt deposition.
Reports indicated that the local inhabitants used to travel for 10 kilometers to fetch water that was not up to standard.
