Eritrean nationals displaced due to earthquake and volcanic eruptions are in good health and that no communicable disease has been witnessed in the new settlement site, according to emergency aid group.
Assab, 5 July 2011 – Eritrean nationals displaced due to earthquake and volcanic eruptions are in good health and that no communicable disease has been witnessed in the new settlement site, according to emergency aid group.

The head of the team comprising staff members from the ministries of health, labor and human welfare, as well as other government institutions, Dr. Michael Gebrehiwet, said that unlike the case in a number of countries in which people displaced by natural disaster are suffering from various communicable disease due to lack of hygiene, no symptom of communicable disease has been witnessed in the displaced Eritrean nationals thanks to the speedy and well-organized relocation process.

Dr. Michael further pointed out that the necessary basic needs have been made available to the nationals, in addition to health facilities.

As regards the impact of the continued emission of dust and smoke, he explained that it entails no health problem to human, beyond itching.

Likewise, the director general of social security in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, and member of the team, Mr. Mihreteab Fisehaye, stated that concerted action is being taken to rehabilitate the displaced citizens.
