Coordinated Endeavors Imperative For Enhancing Active Student Participation In Education: Report

The director general of social services in the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Tesfai Tekle, called on schools, parents and administrative bodies to exert coordinated endeavors so as to enhance active student participation in education.
Massawa, 6 July 2011 – The director general of social services in the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Tesfai Tekle, called on schools, parents and administrative bodies to exert coordinated endeavors so as to enhance active student participation in education.

In a meeting held in Massawa in which heads of the Education Ministry, sub-zonal administrators, partners and others took part, he stressed the need for parents to send their children to school. In this connection, Mr. Tesfai pointed out that the Government is doing its best to expand educational opportunities.

He further explained that regrouping scattered villages in one community has a vital role playing in tackling student dropout due to nomadic way of life. Mr. Tesfai also stated that 16 nomadic schools have been opened this year, and are providing due service. 

As regards Adult Education Program, he noted that additional 23 teaching stations have been opened on top of the existing 126 centers, and that 63% of the participations are able to read and write.

Reports indicated that there are 42 kindergartens, 118 elementary, 45 junior and 11 secondary schools in the Northern Red Sea region, in addition to 149 stations of adult education and 20 nomadic schools for nationals leading nomadic pattern of life.
