As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to augment the economy of Eritrea and utilize the natural resources of the country, Manager of the Salina Salt Factory, Mr. Negasi Goitom noted that the factory is doing its level best to upgrade the quality of its products by all standards.
Massawa, 10 July 2011-As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to augment the economy of Eritrea and utilize the natural resources of the country, Manager of the Salina Salt Factory, Mr. Negasi Goitom noted that the factory is doing its level best to upgrade the quality of its products by all standards.
Mr. Negasi indicated that following intensive renovation after independence, the factory has not only met domestic demands but has also been supplying neighboring countries with iodized salt. The factory produces 80,000 tons of salt every year.
As regards to the cleanliness of the salt, Mr. Negasi said that a machine with a capacity of cleaning 80 tones of salt per hour has been planted, while the health problems people encountered due to lack of iodine was alleviated from 83% to 25%.
Furthermore, the factory has introduced machines that could clean, refine, grind, mix iodine and pack.
According to documents, many international institutions awarded certificate of merits to the factory for its continuous production and supply of iodized salt.
