Vigorous Efforts Underway In Geleb Sub- Zone To Raise Honey Production

Vigorous efforts are being made in Geleb sub-zone to raise honey production, and thereby meet market demand, according to Mr. Jabir Ibrahim, head of the branch office of the Agriculture Ministry in the sub-zone. Geleb, 11 July 2011 – Vigorous efforts are being made in Geleb sub-zone to raise honey production, and thereby meet market demand, according to Mr. Jabir Ibrahim, head of the branch office of the Agriculture Ministry in the sub-zone.

He told ERINA that the sub-zone is rich in natural resources, particularly bee farming all year round.  In addition, Mr. Jabir explained that honey production resources are abundant in the area. Mr. Mahmoud Mohammed, one of the local inhabitants, said that he has managed to upgrade his standard of living through bee farming, and that presently he owns 20 traditional beehives.

Mr. Abraham Woldeslasie, expert in bee farming, on his part pointed out that Geleb is one of the areas in Anseba region well known for bee framing. Reports indicated that there exist over 1,140 traditional and modern beehives in Geleb sub-zone.
