Gash-Barka region: Inhabitants step up development efforts

Barentu, 12 July 2011 – In a meeting he conducted, the Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Musa Rab’a, called on the inhabitants and various institutions in the region to step up efforts for effective implementation of development programs.

 

At the meeting in which area and sub-zonal administrators, ministries branch offices and national organizations took part, he stressed the need for organizing public campaigns so as to reinforce soil and water conservation endeavors and reforestation programs, as well as promoting reserve areas.

It was disclosed that impressive task has been accomplished in expanding infrastructure facilities, ensuring quality education and health services and renewing trade license, among others. Moreover, vigorous efforts would be exerted to carry out study as regards developing the vast agricultural land in the region, providing the necessary facilities to cultivate the land, organizing training programs to raise the awareness of farmers in view of the fact that Gash-Barka is the hub of the nation’s rich agricultural potential.

The participants of the meeting reiterated readiness to step up contribution towards reinforcing the nation-building drive and ensuring food security in particular.
