Micro-dam in Halibmentel administrative area playing vital role in enriching water resource

The micro-dam constructed in Halibmentel administrative area, Elaberad sub-zone, is playing vital role in enriching surface and underground water resource in  the area, disclosed Mr. Teklu Kafel, head of economic development in the sub-zone. He told ERINA that the inhabitants used to travel long distance to fetch water, but presently, they are in a position of obtaining reliable potable water supply.

According to reports, a water reservoir with a capacity of holding about 200 barrels is under construction so that needy farmers could manage to cultivate the area in an organized manner, in addition to the cultivation of farmland below the micro-dam.

The Administrator of Halibmentel, Mr. Beyene Kidane, said that the inhabitants, who were previously spending a lot of time fetching water, are currently engaged in agricultural activities, and thus in a position to improve their living standard.
