Efforts are underway to fertilize indigenous select seeds fit for the climatic condition of Gash-Braka region, and thereby raise agricultural output, Mr. Kesete Gebreyohannes, head of seed fertilization in the branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture in the region, disclosed.

Barentu, 14 July 2011 – Efforts are underway to fertilize indigenous select seeds fit for the climatic condition of Gash-Braka region, and thereby raise agricultural output, Mr. Kesete Gebreyohannes, head of seed fertilization in the branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture in the region, disclosed.

He told Erina that about 13,000 quintals of sorghum, sesame and millet select seeds fertilized last year’s summer season would be distributed to farmers and different agricultural projects. The select seeds plant in Tessenei and Barentu are playing due role in fertilization process, Mr. Kesete added.

Moreover, he said that there are plans to fertilize select seeds of four types of sorghum, two types of millet and beans during the current season in the sub-zones of La’elai Gash, Barentu, Golij, Haikota and Forto-Sawa. Mr. Kesete further called on farming communities in these areas to redouble endeavors and make optimal use of the available select seeds.
