Central region: Extensive reforestation activities being carried out in all villages

Extensive reforestation activities are being carried out through Summer Work Program (SWP) this year in the Central region. This is in continuation of the community-based reforestation program, stated Mr. Berhane Negash, director general of Social Service in the region.

Asmara, 21 July 2011 –Extensive reforestation activities are being carried out through Summer Work Program (SWP) this year in the Central region. This is in continuation of the community-based reforestation program, stated Mr. Berhane Negash, director general of Social Service in the region.

He explained that over 8,000 students are assigned to work in 58 stations and that over 257,000 holes have so far been dug, besides the construction of over 514 Km.-long terraces.

Reports indicated that reforestation program is being undertaken in reserve land as opposed to the practice in previous years, and that effective follow-up would be carried out. The participants of the program are taking part in road terrific, office and other related work, reports added.

The 15th round SWP activities would continue until August 6.
