Eritrea advocates policy of partnership for mutual benefit: Ambassador Osman

Speaking at a panel discussion held in Cairo, the Eritrean Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that Eritrea advocates policy of partnership for mutual benefit. The theme of the panel discussion was: “Eritrea’s perception regarding the situation in the Horn region following the declaration of an independent State of South Sudan”.

Asmara, 22 July 2011 – Speaking at a panel discussion held in Cairo, the Eritrean Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that Eritrea advocates policy of partnership for mutual benefit. The theme of the panel discussion was: “Eritrea’s perception regarding the situation in the Horn region following the declaration of an independent State of South Sudan”.

Mr. Osman explained that Eritrea’s domestic policy is based on the principle of self-reliance which ensures lasting common interest among the countries of the region. In the face of regional and international challenges, such a principle has enabled the nation to register impressive economic and political progress, the Ambassador elaborated.

On the Somalia issue, Mr. Osman stated that Eritrea stands for letting the Somali people resolve their problems themselves free from outside interference.

Likewise, as regards the Sudanese issues, he noted that Eritrea has played modest role towards ensuring Sudanese unity, and that it is exerting endeavors to promote harmony between North and South Sudan.

The participants of panel discussion on their part lauded the Eritrea’s policy of self-reliance, and underlined that self-reliance is the best option for achieving sustainable development in the third world free from interference from international organizations.
