The opening of schools in the Northern Red Sea region this year as part of the continuous endeavors to expand educational opportunity is playing vital role in raising student enrolment, according to reports from the Education Ministry’s branch office in the region. Asmara, 22 July 2011 – The opening of schools in the Northern Red Sea region this year as part of the continuous endeavors to expand educational opportunity is playing vital role in raising student enrolment, according to reports from the Education Ministry’s branch office in the region.

Pointing out that geographic location, climatic condition and nomadic pattern of lifestyle in the region are some of the challenges; the report indicated that schools have been opened in the sub-zones of Afabet, Foro, Ginda, Gelalo, Karora and Adobha, in addition to 16 schools for those nationals leading such pattern of life.

81% from around 41,000 students in the region from elementary to high school level have passed in the 2010/2011 academic education, and that over 1,000 students in the sub-zones Ginda, Afabet and Nacfa are participating in the Summer Work Program.
