Various development programs implemented in Central region

At an assessment meeting the Central region conducted, it was disclosed that various developmental programs have been implemented so as to improve the living standard of the people.

Asmara, 22 July 2011 – At an assessment meeting the Central region conducted, it was disclosed that various developmental programs have been implemented so as to improve the living standard of the people.

 

In opening remarks, the Administrator of the region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, pointed out that the youth continue to be engaged in development activities towards achieving food security, expanding social service and proper harnessing natural resources.

It was indicated at the meeting that smokeless ovens have been introduced in a number of villages and that training was offered to 122 women. Besides, reforestation program involving the general public through planting over 4.5 million tree seedlings.

Moreover, more than 200 hectares below dams have been made ready for cultivation, and that micro-dams with a capacity of holding over 850,000 cubic meters are under construction. On top of this, drip irrigation has been introduced in four villages, and that over 95 hectares are being put under cultivation through such a method, it was further reported.

Moreover, a solar energy water supply projects that could serve more than 9,000 people are under implementation in the villages of Ametsi, Adi-Gebru, Adi-Jin, Mekerka and Geremi.
Reports also indicated that schools have been constructed and 32 health institutions renovated in the region.
