Keren, 23 July 2011 – The reforestation program in Anseba region is gaining momentum, according to Mr. Al-Amin Tahir, head of the branch office of the Agriculture Ministry in the region.
At a meeting held in Keren town in which village elders, government agencies, religious leaders and others took part, he called on institutions and individuals to step up joint endeavor for the success of the program.
The head of economic development in the region, Mr. Kibrom Andemichael, urged on his part that farming communities in the region to enhance their role in conserving the natural vegetations and plant more tree seedlings.
The participants of the meeting adopted a number of recommendations, including taking punitive measures for irresponsible individuals engaged in the cutting of trees, organizing training programs concerning the planting of tree seedlings and designating reserve lands.
Meanwhile, nine exemplary individuals and institutions were awarded 5,000 Nakfa each and certificate for their commendable efforts in the greenery campaign last year.
