Debarwa, 26 July 2011 – Traces of ancient relics have been unearthed in Debarwa that have similar features with the major historical sites around Asmara and Korbaria.
According to a study conducted, the findings of ceramics and traces of the ancient habitations around Debarwa indicated that they had trade relations with remote places. It is to be noted that the Eritrean National Museum has surveyed the area through excavating 60 square meters in 2006 and 2007.
Mr. Tsegai Medin, member of the Museum, stressed the need for conducting scientific study so as to identify the exact period of the relics. However, it is estimated that the artifacts dated back to 2,400 to 2,600 years.
Reports indicated that ancient artifacts found in different parts of Debarwa attest to the fact that the town was hub of trade, political and religious activities during the medieval era.
