Asmara, 29 July 2011 – Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, said that Eritrea is not after interests at the expense of the people of the Horn of Africa. He also pointed out that Eritrea is exerting vigorous efforts to bring about the annulment of the unjust sanctions resolution, as well as the imposition of strict legal measures against Ethiopia which continues to occupy sovereign Eritrean territories in violation of the final and binding EEBC ruling.

The PFDJ official made the remarks in an interview he conducted with ?InnerCityPress.com ??. Mr. Yemane further indicated that Eritrea has called for a meeting with the UN Security Council so that the international community in general and members of the Security Council in particular may have correct and true understanding of the on-going conspiracy and acts of hostility against it.

Regarding Washington’s intentions to bring about the imposition of additional sanctions against Eritrea, he explained that Eritrea maintains better relations with member states of the Security Council except the United States.  However, as Eritrea has nothing to expect from the Washington Administration, she is not willing to look for interests at the expense of the people of the Horn region.
In reply he gave to a question as regards Eritrean-Djiboutian relations, Mr. Yemane noted that the so-called Eritrean-Djiboutian issue is one of Washington’s fabrications, and that the Eritrean government is exerting unremitting efforts to normalize relations between the two countries.

In briefings he gave as regards the objective of President Isaias’s meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Juba city, Mr. Yemane  pointed out that the meeting focused on the Sudanese and Somali issues, and that the UN chief commended Eritrea’s role and called for its enhancement.

The PFDJ official further underlined that in case the United States opts to maintain close relations with Ethiopia which continues to escalate turmoil in the Horn region in gross violation of international law, Eritrea does not look at Ethiopian-US relations from a negative standpoint.

The priority of the Eritrean government is ensuring regional stability, and that it had never adopted hostile stance regarding inter-state relations, Mr. Yemane elaborate.
Regarding the issue of youths fleeing abroad, he said that although fleeing abroad is not something new, it has nonetheless become a major issue at the global level.  Mr. Yemane further explained that the western countries have not only established websites on the movement of people abroad but are also engaged in empty pledges and psychological  agitation with a view to impeding the development programs of countries like Eritrea in which the youth play vital role.
