Southern region registers impressive achievement in education

The Southern region branch office of the Ministry of Education disclosed that major achievements have been registered in the sector of education thanks to the massive investment made in the domain. Mendefera, 4 August 2011- The Southern region branch office of the Ministry of Education disclosed that major achievements have been registered in the sector of education thanks to the massive investment made in the domain.

According to the reports, the number of pre-school institutions grew by 287%, elementary schools by 293%, middle schools by 353% and high schools by 333% over the past 20 years since independence through concerted action of the Government and the general public.

Furthermore, gratifying achievements have been made in the distribution of educational facilities equitably, raising the number of students, reinforcing female participation in education, as well as enrollment in higher institutions of learning.

The report also indicated that nurturing competent students calls for the active participation of the society, and stressed the importance of continued participation of the people to this end.
