Vigorous agricultural activities carried out in the Northern Red Sea region

The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with partners has implemented various agricultural devlepoment activities in the Northern Red Sea region, stated the head of the Ministry’s branch in the region, Mr. Tesfit Geberegziabher. Massawa, 10 August 2011- The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with partners has implemented various agricultural devlepoment activities in the Northern Red Sea region, stated the head of the Ministry’s branch in the region, Mr. Tesfit Geberegziabher.

The activities include water and soil conservation, renovation of water reservoirs, terracing construction and renovating of dams and the like. Reports indicated that the people took active participation in the task.
MR. Tesfit pointed out that in the sub-zones of Afabet,She’ib, Ginda and Foro around 9,000 individuals along with 8,000 pairs of oxen participated in the undertaking that included anti-erosion devices and construction of water reservoir, as well as renovation schemes.

As regards combating erosion in the sub-zones of Nakfa, Ginda and Foro, terracing activity was conducted on 15 hectares and 45 thousand tree seedlings planted, according to reports.
Mr. Tesfit further indicated that various veterinary services were provided to the inhabitants of the region this year and that 500 farmers benefited from rehabilitation schemes.
