Gogne: Administrator call for proper harnessing of farmlands and reserve natural resources

The Administrator of Gogne sub-zone, Mr. Hadish Habte, stressed the need to give due attention to the proper harnessing of the vast plains in the sub-zone including farmlands and unexploited resources in view of their vital contribution towards achieving food security. He made the remarks during the working visit of the Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Musa Rab’a. Gogne, 23 August 2011 – The Administrator of Gogne sub-zone, Mr. Hadish Habte, stressed the need to give due attention to the proper harnessing of the vast plains in the sub-zone including farmlands and unexploited resources in view of their vital contribution towards achieving food security. He made the remarks during the working visit of the Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Musa Rab’a.

Mr. Hadish explained that 100 hectares of farmland are expected to be put under cultivation in the sub-zone  through water diversion scheme, and emphasized the need to undertake extensive agriculture campaign to cultivate the vast farmlands. Explaining that the Megoraib River water flows through the sub-zone, Mr. Hadish called on the local inhabitants to make maximum use of such resource through irrigation.

Moreover, he said that five companies are engaged in activities to harness marble resources in Gogne, and that more efforts are needed to adequately harness these resources.
