Micro- dam under construction around Balwa River begins enriching surface and underground water resources

As part of continuous endeavors toward expanding  irrigational farming, and thereby to achieve food security, a micro-dam which is under construction around Balwa River is contributing to enrichment of surface and underground water resources in the  area, according to Mr. Melake Girmatsion, in charge of the task. Balwa, 24 August 2011 – As part of continuous endeavors toward expanding  irrigational farming, and thereby to achieve food security, a micro-dam which is under construction around Balwa River is contributing to enrichment of surface and underground water resources in the  area, according to Mr. Melake Girmatsion, in charge of the task.

Pointing out that the construction process of the micro-dam is nearing finalization thanks to the concerted effort of the people and government, he explained that it has already impounded sufficient amount of water.
Mr. Habtom Tesfaslasie, one of the local inhabitants, said on their part that the micro-dam would play significant role in the development of irrigation farming and the Elaberid Agro-industry Plant, besides reinforcing endeavors to achieve food security.

Likewise, Mr. Mohammed-Nur Mohammed-Ali, one of the farmers in the area, expressed readiness to  exert utmost efforts as reads boosting their agricultural output.
