Assessment meeting made regarding agricultural activities in Southern region

A meeting was conducted in Mendefera town to assess the momentum of agricultural activities and the condition of livestock and trees in the Southern region, as well as measures that need to be taken. Mendefera, 25 August 2011 – A meeting was conducted in Mendefera town to assess the momentum of agricultural activities and the condition of livestock and trees in the Southern region, as well as measures that need to be taken.

Speaking at the meeting in which sub-zonal administration staff, agricultural experts, chairperson of associations of dairy farming as well as fruits and vegetables took part, the Administrator of the region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhussein, called on the participations to seriously evaluate past achievements and the tasks that need to be accomplished.

According to the reports presented by the Administrators of 12 sub-zones regarding the condition of rainfall, seeds, dams, livestock, grazing land and trees, satisfactory amount of rainfall has been recorded  since the early month of July, and that the planted cereals over 59,000 hectares are in good condition. However, the Administrator of Areza sub-zone, Mr. Berhane Megesha, said that this year’s rainfall in the sub-zone was not adequate, and for that reason farmers are making relentless efforts to conserve every drop of rain waters.
