The prevalence of communicable diseases has dropped significantly across the nation as a result of the relentless endeavors made to ensure the welfare of the general public, according to the director of communicable and non-communicable diseases control unit in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Goitom Mebrahtu. Asmara, 25 August 2011 – The prevalence of communicable diseases has dropped significantly across the nation as a result of the relentless endeavors made to ensure the welfare of the general public, according to the director of communicable and non-communicable diseases control unit in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Goitom Mebrahtu.

He said that adequate drug supplies have been provided to prevent the most prevalent diseases including TB and malaria, besides organizing training and lectures aimed at enhancing the capacity of health experts and raising public awareness. The reduction of malaria by 95% demonstrates the effectiveness of the endeavors exerted to eradicate communicable diseases, Dr. Goitom.

He further indicated that a long-term plan has been outlined to prevent non-communicable diseases, and that the agitation and information center set up by the Health Ministry to upgrade public awareness is bearing fruitful outcome.
