Southern Red Sea region: effective community-based cleanup campaign

The inhabitants of the Southern Red Sea have carried effective community-based cleanup campaign.According to reports, a number of campaign initiatives were made in 49 villages of the region, in addition to the construction of public lavatories in 11 villages.

Assab, 31 august 2011 – The inhabitants of the Southern Red Sea have carried effective community-based cleanup campaign. According to reports, a number of campaign initiatives were made in 49 villages of the region, in addition to the construction of public lavatories in 11 villages.

The Administrator of Denkalia sub-zone, Mr. Zerai Berhe said that the main causes of disease are the lack of sanitation and resort to lavatory practice.

The head of the Health Ministry’s branch office in the region, Mr. Asefaw Geberemichael, said on his part that lack of hygiene is the cause of 80% of contagious disease, and called on the rest of the villages to emulate the practice of those villages that have put in place public lavatories.
