Asmara , 1 September 2011 – In a statement it issued in connection with the Golden Jubilee of the launching of the Eritrean people’s armed struggle for independence, the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice pointed out that the past half century in the history of the Eritrean people marks a period of struggle and progress characterized with historic accomplishments.

The statement underlined that beyond observing the momentous occasion, we need to deeply examine and evaluate the historical meaning and significance of the great event.  It further elaborated that the past 50 years witnessed three main historical phases within three generations i.e. peaceful political struggle, armed political struggle and the building of an independent nation.

The statement noted that the history of the Eritrean Revolution amply proved that a popular struggle for a just cause based on conscious, united and organized people is bound to triumph over a heavily armed colonial entity enjoying the support of the major powers. It also underlined that we should build a new history out of past history so as to make use of our history as source of valuable lesson and wisdom, and thereby ensure the continuity and viability of history.

The PFDJ statement underscored that the history of the Eritrean struggle for liberation and that of the People’s Front that has few comparisons should serve as a great behest and foundation for building a prosperous nation.
