In line with the ongoing efforts to prevail social justice nationwide, accessibility of public transportation registered 63% growth in the past 20 years of independence, according to documents from the department of transportation. Asmara, 5 September 2011 – In line with the ongoing efforts to prevail social justice nationwide, accessibility of public transportation registered 63% growth in the past 20 years of independence, according to documents from the department of transportation.

The land transportation department also disclosed that the road network in Eritrea was only a little more over 4,000 kilometers and grew to 14,560 kilometers after independence, while the transportation lines were raised by six folds.

Furthermore, Mr. Yonathan Teklehaimanot from the department of land transport indicated that efforts are being in place to raise the land transportation network by 20% in the coming five years.

Mr. Yonathan added that action plan has been prepared to construct standard terminals, vehicle inspection activities, infrastructure development, as well as the demand and supply in the transportation sector.
