Asmara, 7 August 2011 – The public at large have been called upon to properly make use of private health service opened by the Ministry of Health, stated Dr. Habteab Mehari, Director of national referral hospitals.

He explained that though the Ministry has opened a number of health institutions equipped with modern equipments and skilled manpower, the public is not fully benefiting as desired. Dr. Habteab also indicated that waiting rooms for patients would be constructed at Orotta Referral Hospital.

Replying to a question regarding complaints of overcrowding and long queue, he said that patients often ask for specific physicians to handle their demands. The beneficiaries must also show up on time for the registration hours, he added.

Pointing out that one physician takes care of 25 to 30 patients a day, Dr. Tesfaselasie Eyob, stated that the newly introduced private health service by the Health Ministry benefits both patients and physicians, and stressed the need for improvement in registration procedures.
