Asmara, 10 September 2011- A society that manages to eradicate illiteracy would also build a developed nation in which social justice prevails, stated the director of adult education and media in the Education, Mr. Gebrezgi Demam.
In a meeting held in the hall of the City Municipality, Mr. Gebrezgi said that the successes of development programs depend on narrowing the gap between the literate and illiterate sections of the society. He also pointed out that the Government is working hard towards this end.
He further indicated that the rate of illiteracy in the country has declined although more efforts need to be taken so as completely eradicate illiteracy from the country.
The meeting aimed at reviewing past accomplishments, discuss future programs and reaching common understanding with partners regarding societal awareness about education.
In a closing speech, Minster of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, speaking at the meeting called on the participants to step up for the success of the program.
