The transportation branch office in Gash-Barka is making vigorous efforts towards improving transportation services, stated Mr. Haile Abraha, head of the branch office of transportation in the region. Barentu, 10 September 2011 – The transportation branch office in Gash-Barka is making vigorous efforts towards improving transportation services, stated Mr. Haile Abraha, head of the branch office of transportation in the region.
He indicated that prior to independence there existed only few roads and transportation vehicles in the region, but at present the number has grown, in addition to the construction and renovation of roads and bridges that enabled 74% of the inhabitants in the region benefit from a new transportation system.
Mr. Haile further explained that the newly constructed dirt roads from Barentu to Gerenfit and Awgaro to Haikota have begun providing services to the local inhabitants, in addition to the agreement reached with concerned parties to open new route to remote villages of the region.
He also pointed out that the transportation office is making vigorous efforts in expanding the transportation system reach to remote villages, and commended the administration of the region for their collaboration.
