Vigorous Efforts made to promote health of livestock

Vigorous efforts have been made to promote health of livestock as they play vital role in guaranteeing food-security and reinforcing the national economy, stated Mr. Afwerki Mihrteab from the Agricultural Ministry’s livestock health and crop protection unit.

Asmara, 16 September 2011- Vigorous efforts have been made to promote health of livestock as they play vital role in guaranteeing food-security and reinforcing the national economy, stated Mr. Afwerki Mihrteab from the Agricultural Ministry’s livestock health and crop protection unit.

He said that the unit has been organizing campaigns so as to raise awareness of farmers on the issue, in addition to vaccination programs.

Mr. Afewerki indicated that Eritrea managed to rinderpest in 2005, and has received a certificate from the World Health Organization for such an accomplishment. Various activities are also being implemented in 70 animal health centers by the livestock and crops protection unit to combat the livestock diseases just cited, he added.
