Gash-Barka region: Efforts underway to render efficient health service

Vigorous efforts are being made in Gash-Barka region to render efficient health service to nationals, disclosed Dr. Leul Banteirga, head of health service in the region.
Barentu, 17 September 2011 – Vigorous efforts are being made in Gash-Barka region to render efficient health service to nationals, disclosed Dr. Leul Banteirga, head of health service in the region.

He told Erina that 90 health institutions are being expanded in various parts of the region and are playing vital role in ensuring the welfare of the inhabitants.

Dr. Leul also explained that activities are being carried out to improve the hospitals in Tessenei and Agordat, as well as upgrade health stations in Haikota and Golij semi-urban centers. He further indicated that the prevalence of malaria has dropped significantly, and that public awareness regarding sanitation is on the rise to prevent communicable disease.

Stating that vaccination programs to the benefit of mothers and children are bearing fruitful outcome, Dr. Leul said that health service in the region is registering progress.
