Land for residential purpose allotted to citizens in Gash-Barka region

Land for residential purpose has been allotted to 300 citizens in Barnetu and 600 in Tessenei towns in Gash-Barka region, stated Mr. Bereket Kidane, head of the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment branch office in the region.
Barentu, 17 September 2011 – Land for residential purpose has been allotted to 300 citizens in Barnetu and 600 in Tessenei towns in Gash-Barka region, stated Mr. Bereket Kidane, head of the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment branch office in the region.

He also explained that land distribution would begin in Haikota, Agordat, Golij, Mogoraib and Molqui this year. Moreover, Mr. Bereket stated that preparations are underway to allot land for institutions and enterprises, as well as agricultural purpose. And agriculture plants would be given priority, he added.

Mr. Bereket further indicated that selling land is punishable by law, and hence punitive measures would be taken against individuals engaged in such practice.
