Endeavors to fertilize Rye seed which is rich in protein and fiber contents, have registered fruitful outcome in Debarwa sub-zone, stated Mr. Daniel Kahsai, an exemplary farmer.

Debarwa, 19 September 2011 –Endeavors to fertilize Rye seed which is rich in protein and fiber contents, have registered fruitful outcome in Debarwa sub-zone, stated Mr. Daniel Kahsai, an exemplary farmer.

 

Indicating that he was able to increase Rye seeds from 5 to over 10 quintals, he said that he has already distributed it to 75 farmers and its demand is on the increase.  Mr. Daniel explained that Rye grain is used for flour, rye bread, rye beer, animal fodder and the like.

Dr. Eyasu Gebretatios, director of Halhale National Agricultural Research Plant, said that, Rye cereals also plays significant role in ensuring food security and generating hard currency.
