120 farmers that work under the Simret association in the Adi Quala sub-zone, Sememo Micro-Dam, disclosed that they have extended their harvest to three times a year using the drip irrigation system they are practicing from the dam.
Adi Quala, 25 September 2011- 120 farmers that work under the Simret association in the Adi Quala sub-zone, Sememo Micro-Dam, disclosed that they have extended their harvest to three times a year using the drip irrigation system they are practicing from the dam.
One of the farmers, Mr. Amanuel Sium said that he used to get 20 quintals a year per hectare, but now that they are utilizing the drip irrigation from the dam, his harvest has grown to 71 quintals per hectare.
The drip irrigation system in Sememo that was set up at a cost of 10 million Nakfa is currently feeding 80 hectares of land, reports from the Ministry of Agriculture branch of the Adi Quala sub-zone disclosed.
Also reports from the regional branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture disclosed that similar systems are being put in place in five other major dams of the region.
