Meskel (Finding of the True Cross) was today celebrated across the nation in a colorful manner.

Asmara, 28 September 2011 – Meskel (Finding of the True Cross) was today celebrated across the nation in a colorful manner.

During the observance at Bahti Meskerem Square here in the Capital in which thousands of the faithful, senior Government and PFDJ officials, as well as diplomats took part, prayers were conducted by His Holiness Abune Dioskoros, 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, and Bishops.

In remarks he made on the occasion, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros gave fatherly advice to the Eritrean people to strive for the nation’s development. Also in a lecture he gave in connection with the religious holiday, Lique Gubae Beyene Eyasu advised nationals to further nurture the culture of mutual cooperation.

Thereafter, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros and the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, jointly lit the Damera torch.

Sunday school youths presented religious songs and drama on the occasion.

The Eritrean Mufti, Sheikh Al-Amin Osman and the representatives of the Eritrean Catholic Church and Lutheran Evangelical Church attended the event.
