Head of the Ministry of Agriculture branch office in the central region, Engineer Abraham Daniel disclosed that all the dams in the region have accumulated enough water.
Asmara, 2 October 2011- Head of the Ministry of Agriculture branch office in the central region, Engineer Abraham Daniel disclosed that all the dams in the region have accumulated enough water.
Engineer Abraham said that 77 of the dams in the central region have saved enough water, while the rest have been filled to capacity ensuring a promising year for the irrigation farmers around the dams, as well as supplying drinking water to their herds.
Noting that the government has built hundreds of dams and micro-dams around the country to reinforce its food security programs, Engineer Abraham added that plans are being worked on to utilize the dams in promoting intensive irrigation practices.
Reports from the Ministry of Agriculture indicate that there are 81 dams in the central region alone.
