Asmara, 3 October 2011 –At a meeting conducted in Asmara, the Association of Teachers branch in the Central region expressed readiness to strive for gender equality in education.
Speaking at the meeting conducted under the theme: “Teachers: Equal Opportunity for Girls and Boys”, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, called on teachers to play leading role in the development drive.
The Chairman of the Association’s branch, Mr. Woldemichael Asmelash, equally stressed the importance of teachers’ diligence towards nurturing students imbued with vision. He further stated that they would step up efforts to ensure equal participation of both genders in education.
The head of the Education Ministry’s branch office in the Central region, Mr. Girmai Gebrehiwet, on his part urged teachers to upgrade their knowledge through getting involved in continuous educational pursuit.
Likewise, the head of the NUEW branch in the region, Ms. Tekh’a Tesfamichael, expressed conviction that teachers would enhance their efforts to enable students appreciate gender equality and thus demonstrate behavioral change.
