Barentu, 6 October 2011- In the course of an inspection tour in Gash-Barka region, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefayene Berhe, reminded farmers to introduce experimented seedlings of cotton, sesame and other oil seeds, which task has already produced positive outcome.
The Minister visited the sub-zones of Golij, Barentu, Shambuko, and Molqui, during which he inspected the 280-hectare cultivation of cotton, sugarcane, orange and palm within the Gerset farming project, 90 thousand hectares of crop cultivation in Golij sub-zone, and another 2,500 hectares of crop cultivation in Tessenai sub-zone. He also received briefings from agriculture experts, in addition to visiting the Bademit Micro-dam which is under construction.
Furthermore, Mr. Arefayene conducted discussions with farmers and agriculture experts in the region, and urged farmers to undertake terracing activities and apply crop-rotation method.
Meanwhile, agriculture experts said that crops in the region are in good conditions.
