The investments made in introducing irrigation farming in Geleb sub-zone is gaining momentum, according to Mr. Jaber Ibrahim, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone. Keren, 11 October 2011 – The investments made in introducing irrigation farming in Geleb sub-zone is gaining momentum, according to Mr. Jaber Ibrahim, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.

He said that irrigation-based farming activities on the part of individuals are being popularized, and that the number of farmers resorting to the practice has so far reached 300.

There exist rivers in the sub-zone that flow the year round, in addition to being rich in underground water resource. Moreover, the number of micro-dams and water reservoirs constructed in the sub-zone are making vital contribution to the task of promoting irrigation farming, he added.

The Administrator of Geleb sub-zone, Sheikh Ali Hazot, commended the contribution of the micro-dams and water reservoirs in the region are playing in upgrading the lifestyle of the local inhabitants.
