The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, said that micro-dams and water reservoirs in Anseba region are playing vital role in raising production, besides promoting irrigation farming.
Keren, 13 October 2011- The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, said that micro-dams and water reservoirs in Anseba region are playing vital role in raising production, besides promoting irrigation farming.
During an inspection tour of crop condition and micro-dams, as well as water reservoirs under construction in the sub-zones of Habero, Hamelmalo and Elaberid, Mr. Arefaine said that crops in Hamelmalo and Elabeird sub-zones are in good condition.
He further reminded farmers to conserve every drop of water and introduce crop rotation methods, among others, so as to raise production.
The Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, indicated on his part that efforts are underway to plant tree seedlings and introduce modern irrigation farming in region.
Mr. Arefaine commended the initiative of the local inhabitants to promote soil and water conservation, and urged them to apply terracing and practice judicious utilization of water in the micro-dams.
